So much has been going on!!
Last Wed. I got a txt from my husband saying animal control had Capone. I was a little worried but just assumed he had gotten out somehow. After playing phone tag, I finally got a call from the officer and she informed me Capone had been hit by a car. I started bawling on the phone. This is my baby! Thankfully he was micro chipped so all they had to do was scan him and my information came up. I rushed to the SPCA to pick him up, I was so worried about what he was going to look like. He came limping out the cage but other than that and a scratch on in front paw he didn’t look too bad. I took him straight his vet where they did x-rays and thankfully his leg wasn’t broken. The bad news was he tore the ligaments in his back left knee which is why he was limping. They told me he needed surgery and after calling around I found a place to take him. When I arrived they told me that I was not on the schedule. I was furious! They then said that they had me down for the next week. I was really upset I had taken a whole day off for his surgery and they didn’t even have him scheduled!!! I think they knew how mad I was and after giving me the “what do you want me to do about it" attitude they finally said they would try to work him in. When I got back to see the doctor, I realized they don’t even do the surgery that I had requested. I guess the person I talked to on the phone didn’t know what I was saying and just said ‘yeah, we do that’.
Because I had taken the whole day off to have Capone fixed I decided to go with the surgery that they did do, which is where they go in and temporary stabilize his knee joint. They said they would hold him there and try to fit him into the surgery schedule. I thought that this was better than nothing and left him there, hoping that when I came back he would be fixed. They called me later and asked me to come pick Capone up.
When I got there the doctor commented that he thought he saw a fracture on the outside x-rays I brought in with us. He pointed to the spot he thought was a fracture. I looked at him and explained that I am an x-ray tech and while I do x-rays on humans, I imagine dogs have very similar anatomy. I told him the area he thought was a fracture looked like a joint space to me. He said he needed more x-rays and took another one. He came back in and said “you’re right, It was a joint space” I was stunned!! This man just charged me $95 for an x-ray that wasn’t even needed because he didn’t know what a joint space looks like!!! I got out of there as fast as I could!! After doing a ton of research I have decided we are going to go the conventional non-surgery route. Capone’s body will heal itself and if it doesn’t then we will consider surgery then. The temporary stabilization they were going to put in was only going to hold until his body made scare tissue to make up for the torn ligaments. His body will do this on its own without surgery and for now I feel this is our best choice.
On to the happier stuff:
Jason told me he had a surprise for me and that I needed to make sure I wasn’t on call last weekend. I was able to get someone to take the call for me and was super excited for whatever he had planned. (Jason’s not usually the surprise kind of guy, he can’t help but spill the beans anytime he has a surprise) Unfortunaly he also told one of our mutual friends who let the cat outta the bag. He planned on taking me to Savannah on a casino boat and then to the Melting Pot, which Charleston no longer has. I was a little bummed that the surprised was ruined but then decided that it was still a surprise, I just found out early.
The next morning it was raining like crazy but we left for Savannah. We got there in plenty of time and got on the boat. I have only been gambling twice. Once for my 21st birthday while in New Orleans, that time i stuck with the slots, and once when Jason took me to Atlantic City. Both times I had no idea what I was doing. I mean I know how to play black jack and Texas hold'em but when it came to craps I was clueless.
It takes an hour after the boat leaves to get out far enough to start gambling but once it did I watched my baby in action. He tried to explain the Craps table to me but it took about an hour or so of just watching and placing the min. bet for me to finally catch on. I also had a wicked headache and had to constantly take meds. but I was determined not to let that ruin our time. We would win money and then lose it. Win then lose. It was so much fun!! Finally we were coming back in and they were about to close the tables back down, when Jason made one last bet that won back most of what we had lost for the day! I was so excited!! We didn’t come up but we didn’t lose either!!! All in all it was super fun!!
We left the boat and went straight to the Melting Pot. I was a little nervous because my husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. He ordered the filet and I ordered filet, chicken, and shrimp. I was worried he wouldn’t have enough to eat or would hate the fact that he had to constantly cook the food but when we left he said he was stuffed and it was good!!! It wasn’t his favorite place in the world but he said he would go back!!! I thought it was wonderful and even better than the Foundly Yours restaurant we have here in Charleston.
We decided not to stay in Savannah that night because we wanted to get up early to go to the Oyster roast.
On the way back home we decided to go to a movie with some friends of ours.
They were going to see Avatar and we both wanted to see it.
We ended up going to the new IMAX in West Ashley. My brother and some other friends were supposed to meet us but as they were standing in line for tickets the movie sold out! This movie has been out for at least a month and is still selling out!!
The 3D was amazing and the story line was awesome!!! I’m so glad we went! I could not have asked for a better day spent with my husband!! He was so thoughtful!!!
The next day we got up early for the Oyster Festival which was at Boone Hall. We were smart enough to hit up the store first for some rain boots! Thank goodness we did! It was like a mud pit out there!!!
It wasn’t too cold with the sun out and we met up with a bunch of our friends!!
The oysters were delicious and the beer was good and cold!!
I lost my second phone to the port-o-potty (gross), but it was the old one so i wasnt too upset about it.
On the way out we went the back way and saw about 10 cars which had bogged down and a tractor was going around getting people out.
We got stuck for about 2 mins before we pushed ourselves out. Jason got behind the wheel and slung the car though the mud pit as people cheered us on! He got us out like we were in a 4 wheeler!!!
Today one of Jason's best friends from Jersey is coming into town so its sure to be an exciting weekend! Im pretty excited. All of Jason's friends are cool and this one is just nuts!
sounds like a busy week!! glad to hear things went well!!
